Maintenance Manager – Machining

This is an excellent opportunity for a driven Maintenance Manager to unlock their ambition and contribute to the growth and advancement of an international manufacturer. As a Maintenance Manager you will be responsible for leading all maintenance and reliability activities for machining operations consisting of CNC machines, bar transfer, CNC lathe and transfer machines and well as tooling. This role will stabilize equipment reliability, reduce chronic downtime, and transition the plant from reactive maintenance practices to a fully implemented TPM system. The Maintenance Manager will lead the maintenance team across three shifts and drive machine turnaround initiatives, capital equipment replacement projects, tooling readiness and automation improvements. 

 

Position Overview:

o Lead and develop a team of 15 maintenance and tooling professionals across three shifts, establishing accountability, training programs, and performance standards.

o Assess current equipment condition and develop structured recovery plans for aging CNC and transfer equipment.

o Eliminate chronic downtime through root cause analysis (RCA), structured troubleshooting, and permanent corrective actions.

o Transition the facility from reactive, unsustainable maintenance to a disciplined preventive and predictive maintenance strategy.

o Design and fully implement a TPM roadmap through managing Maintenance Tier boards, including autonomous maintenance, PM standardization, audits, and KPI tracking. Drive preventive maintenance compliance to exceed 90% while improving MTBF and reducing MTTR.

o Lead machine rebuilds, retrofits, and control upgrades where financially justified.

o Lead CAPEX projects: develop and execute a long-term asset replacement strategy aligned with production growth and operational needs.

o Manage maintenance budget, including cost control, ROI analysis, and spare parts optimization.

o Oversee tooling maintenance, rebuild, and readiness for CNC and transfer machines.

o Partner with Production and Engineering to establish tooling life standards and change intervals.

o Reduce downtime related to tooling wear, breakage, and setup variability.

o Optimize tooling inventory levels and vendor relationships.

o Optimize CMMS usage for work order management, asset history tracking, and downtime analytics.

o Leverage CMMS to improve spare parts management availability and stocks.

o Collaborate with production leadership to improve OEE and minimize unplanned downtime.

o Manage third-party contractors and ensure compliance with site safety and quality standards.

o Ensure all safety standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies are strictly followed.

o Conduct monthly facility audits and ensure corrective actions are documented and executed.

o Support automation upgrades and intermediate-level PLC troubleshooting and system improvements.

 

Experience and Education:

o Extensive mechanical and electrical experience.

o Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or related field preferred but related industry experience will be considered in lieu of a degree

o Minimum 7 years of progressive maintenance leadership experience in a machining or industrial manufacturing environment.

o Demonstrated experience executing capital equipment projects from justification through commissioning.

o Strong financial acumen related to maintenance budgeting and capital planning.

o Experience implementing TPM or similar reliability-centered maintenance programs.

o Ability to lead in a fast-paced, manufacturing environment, Able to function in a leadership role and interact positively and openly with employees, managers and contractors.

o Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

o Proven experience leading equipment turnaround initiatives and reliability transformations

o Strong knowledge of CNC systems, transfer machines, hydraulics, pneumatics, and industrial electrical systems.

 

Performance Measurements and KPIs:

o Reduction in unplanned downtime year-over-year.

o Improvement in MTBF and reduction in MTTR.

o Preventive Maintenance compliance rate.

o Successful implementation of TPM milestones.
